Uterine CancerUterine cancer is a Women’s Health topic that we should all be aware of, as it is the fourth most common cancer among women. Any time cancer originates within the uterus, it can be called uterine cancer. The uterus is a pear-shaped organ found within a woman's pelvis (area below the stomach and between the hip bones). The uterus can also be called the womb. When a woman is pregnant, the uterus houses the baby until he/she is born.

Endometrial cancer is the most common type of uterine cancer. It occurs in the lining of the uterus, or the endometrium.

All women are at risk of getting uterine cancer. The exact causes of uterine cancer are unknown, but there are certain risk factors to take into consideration. For example, as a woman gets older, the risk increases. It is more typical for women who are going through or have already gone through menopause to become victims of uterine cancer. If a woman has endometrial hyperplasia, her risk of getting uterine cancer is higher. Likewise, women who have done Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) using estrogen without progesterone have a higher risk factor of experiencing uterine cancer. HRT is often used for one of the following reasons: to control the symptoms of menopause, to reduce the risk of heart disease, or to prevent the thinning and weakening of the bones (osteoporosis). Because a woman’s body creates its estrogen through the use of fatty tissue, women who are obese are more apt to having a higher level of estrogen within their bodies when compared to thinner women. These elevated levels of estrogen are the main reason why obese women are more likely to develop uterine cancer. The risk of uterine cancer is also higher for women with high blood pressure or diabetes, which also happen to be common conditions among obese women.

Treatment of uterine cancer is most effective when the cancer is discovered at an early stage. The most common symptom of uterine cancer is abnormal bleeding when compared to the woman’s typical bleeding patterns. This could be anything from small amount of bleeding after a woman has gone through menopause, or extended periods of bleeding that last more than seven days. Other symptoms could be bleeding in between periods or periods that are longer or heavier than normal. Another sign of uterine cancer is pain or pressure in the pelvis.

Any time you are experiencing abnormalities within your body, Healthy Food Secrets

recommends consulting your physician as soon as possible.
